Problem at work ?
Helping members when they have problems at work is one of our most important roles.
Members can seek advice on any employment-related matter from trained local representatives. They have access to full-time negotiators and expert legal advice at Prospect headquarters, and if necessary cases can be referred to the union's solicitors. We can give basic guidance about your employment rights, represent you in discussions with your own management, or, if your problem is serious, we can help pursue the case to an appeal board or employment tribunal. (But please note that we reserve the right not to take up cases for members where the event giving rise to the case occurred before that person became a member.)
Even if you're employed on a personal contract we can represent you in disciplinary and grievance actions.
Prospect takes up thousands of personal cases in an average year, and in ATSS Branch our reps are frequently dealing with the cases of individual members in addition to the collective issues which cover some, many or all members.
If a member has a disciplinary problem, a grievance or another individual issue in the workplace for which they require support they should initially approach a local rep. In some cases advice can be given as the matter may already be known to the rep. If more extensive assistance is required, the member or local rep should get in touch with one of our reps who are trained in how to handle "Personal Cases"
In sensitive or complex cases, the local Personal cases rep may hand the case on to one of our more experienced national Personal case representatives.
If discilpinary action is initiated against any member where there is a possibility that their continued employment is in jeopardy, the National Secretary and Branch President should be informed.
